Welcome back to the Such Is Fantasy NRL Draft Waiver Wire for Round 7. A massive injury to Adam Dewey dominates the news this week, Origin selection is getting close and Jack Bostock is the must-add of the round. Here's every priority claim, every stash and every Origin-period planning call from the pod.
Injury Update
Adam Dewey — as above. Shoulder. Wait on scans, but plan for the worst and be pleasantly surprised. He's a must-cover in every format.
Feynu (Tigers) — appeared to pick up a serious injury late in the Sharks game. Could be out for a couple of weeks at minimum. Watch team lists carefully on Tuesday before making any moves. He's been one of the better performing Tigers this season at 63+ each week, so his absence opens up opportunity in the Tigers' attack rotation.
Arama Howe (Titans) — appears to have been hooked with about 30 minutes remaining against the Raiders. If that's a performance-based hook rather than injury, Cooper Buys comes into focus as a waiver target. Worth monitoring team lists.
No. 1 Priority — Jack Bostock
Adam Dewey Cover — Halfback & Five-Eighth
If Adam Dewey is your starting half or five-eighth, your replacement options in draft depend on what's left on your wire. The cleanest upgrades:
Add Tanner Boyd — scored an 80 this week for the Warriors. If Dewey is gone for an extended period, Boyd is the most like-for-like replacement available. He's been consistent all season and the Warriors have a great draw coming up. Add Jerome Hughes (if available) — another solid fallback option. Roger Tuovasek also scored 80 and could be available in some leagues.
Watch Volkman (Eels) — scored 77 with a very low break-even coming up. Could be a sneaky short-term pick if your waiver is thin at half.
Origin-Period Planning — Who to Target Now
With Origin 1 approaching fast, the waiver wire strategy shifts. The players you want over the Origin period are those who won't be selected for State of Origin — which means they play every week while your rivals' premium players sit out. Here's who's worth targeting now:
Add Aaron Clark (Warriors) — starting to produce exactly what he did last season. No Origin risk. Good draw. Add him before the price or availability changes. Add Jermaine Asako (Dolphins) — 65 this week and I like him as a buy over the Origin period. The Dolphins have the best draw of any side heading into the bye rounds. Having three or four Dolphins across your squad is a legitimate strategy. Add Jack Bostock — see above. Same reason.
Watch Ola Kuatu (Seagulls) — scored 63 this week in a competitive loss to the Panthers. The question mark is Origin selection. If he gets picked, park him. If he doesn't get picked, he's coming straight into my side — the Seagulls' draw is decent and he's an elite back-rower. Check the team announcement carefully.
Watch Cooper Buys (Titans) — not yet, but as soon as he gets 80 minutes he's a buy. He is an absolute gun and Arama Howe has potentially peaked and could be dropped. As soon as Buys gets a full game, move immediately.
Forwards — Post-Round 7 Targets
Add Simi Sasangi — if he's somehow still available in your league after a 109 and two tries, add him immediately. He's a must-own in every format. Add KO Weeks (Raiders) — consistent 80s are there. Solid add in any league. Add Nat Butcher (Roosters) — 95 this week, no Origin risk, steady output.
Add T. Wilton (Sharks) — 105 with a hat-trick. The hat-trick inflates it, but he's worth having in deeper leagues. Available in most. Watch Tino Fa'asuamaleaui (Titans) — it's now confirmed he had surgery before the year and has been nursed through. His output is on the rise. He'll play Origin, so don't add him for now — but once Origin is done, he's a must.
Stash Bo Firmor (Titans) — 81 this round, relevant in draft. Doesn't look like an Origin pick so he's safe over that period.
Backs — Wings, Centres & Fullbacks
Add Alex Johnson (Rabbitohs) — 127 this week, playing outside Latrell Mitchell at centre and absolutely feasting. He's not going to make Origin. If he's available in your league you are getting him right now. Add Cant Piera (Warriors) — three tries in two weeks, 90 this round. Available in plenty of leagues and has real ceiling. Add Dylan Lucas (Knights) — 97 this week. Good draw for the Knights coming up, no Origin risk.
Watch Kaelan Ponga (Knights) — the best player on the field on Sunday night. He'll get picked for Origin, so if you're trying to roster for that period he's not ideal. But in terms of pure output before and after, you want him. Watch Selwyn Cobbo (Dolphins) — 89 this week, try scorer, Dolphins have the best draw. Possible Origin selection muddies the water, but keep a close eye.
Drop Cam Murray — if you're still holding him, his output has been consistently poor all season. Drop him and use the roster spot for something useful.
